Nampa man accidentally shot while hunting

IDAHO FALLS -- A Nampa man was badly injured after he was accidentally shot while hunting.

The Post Register reports 42-year-old Brant Balls was hunting with his mother, Carol Balls, in eastern Idaho on Saturday when her rifle accidentally fired. The Clark County Sheriff's Office says the bullet hit Brant Balls in the upper leg, and he was taken to a nearby campsite to wait for emergency responders.

Clark County Sheriff Bart May said there was a surgery technician and others with medical backgrounds at the campsite who helped care for Balls until an ambulance arrived. An online fundraising page set up to help Balls with medical bills says the accident shattered his femur and damaged several arteries and nerves in his leg.

May said the shooting remains under investigation.
