Local students take part in Walk to School Day

The campaign is to get kids active in a fun way.

You might have seen more kids than usual walking to school today. Today is International Walk to School Day.

Children across the Treasure Valley hit the pavement this morning as part of a campaign to get kids active in a fun way.

Walk to School Day also aims to raise awareness about the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and health, a message some parents we talked to can get behind.

"It's always a good message right? Get the kids out and active. They are all riled up!” laughed parent Susan McCown.

Parents and students agree that walking to school is an easy way to get some exercise.

Gov. Butch Otter and Congressman Mike Simpson also joined in on the fun today. The pair met up with students from Longfellow Elementary School in Boise to walk to school.
