Local business surprises other local businesses with gifts

BOISE - Small Business Saturday is a day people are encouraged to support local business.

Our Town America is one Treasure Valley business that's helping other local businesses this holiday season.

“What we do is welcome all of the new families that live in an area,” said Amy Hecht, owner of Our Town America. “We partner with other local businesses, so they can be the first to welcome these new families into their business and gain new local customers."

Hecht is surprising local business owners with a gift basket and a community service award.

She said it's the least they can do because they believe small business are the back bone of the community.

"They're working 24/7 every day of the year,” she said.  “We wanted to let them have a night out on the town."

Giving them gift baskets full of gift certificates to show them they’re appreciated.

Business owners, like John Newcomb, owners of the Blimpie on Emerald near Maple Grove in Boise, are being surprised with them.

“I had no idea this was happening,” he said. “She called me a little while ago and said, 'Don't leave! Don't leave!' "

Hecht said there are 60 more business that will get a gift basket over the rest of the holiday season.

Newcomb said it’s a great gesture.

“It means somebody appreciates you,” he said. “And that's nice because I really appreciate my customers.”
