COEUR D'ALENE - Officials in Coeur d'Alene say this will be the last year the city hosts a full Ironman race.
The northern Idaho tourism destination has hosted full Ironman competitions for 14 years. But last week, officials with the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce told City Council members that the chamber didn't want to renew its $50,000 annual financial commitment to the 140.6-mile triathlon.
A full Ironman competition will still be held this August, but next year the event will be scaled back to a half-Ironman.
The half Ironman contract requires a $25,000 annual payment from the Chamber of Commerce. That money typically comes from funding sources including a hotel rebate program and the local Convention and Visitors Bureau.
