Food truck park struggling to attract customers

BOISE -- The West End Food Park at 2419 West Fairview Avenue has been open for several weeks. Their goal was to bring people to Boise's West End as well as business to local food trucks.

Unfortunately, this summer has not gone as well as originally planned.

After a fast start, things have slowed down at the West End Food Park.

"I think being new to the scene, the food truck scene, we're definitely learning a lot," said Amy Heath, one of the organizers.

Mosaic World Plates food truck, which specializes in crepes, has been learning through the process as well.

"We had a lot of exposure, we learned a lot, it's been kind of fun so far," said Richard Rule, co-owner of Mosaic World Plates. "It's a learning experience."

Rule said the park is a great idea for their new business. They've only been on the food truck scene for eight weeks, but have been regular trucks at the food park.

"We're one of the early trucks to be here," he said. "We're kind of learning and helping get it started. Some of the other trucks, once we finally had good luck here, some of the other trucks will probably start coming which would be great."

However, quite a few other trucks had other plans.

"We had a really strong start and then the business kind of died off because we didn't have a lot of trucks signed up. They were all booked for the season," said Heath.

To increase business, they are getting a sign, hosting brewery tasting events, and holding artist shows.

"It takes about 30 people to support a one man truck, in order for them to be profitable to be here with us," Heath said.

Organizers are hopeful that the community will rally around the park and the local food trucks.

"I think it's going to start picking up," Heath added. "We're really hoping to get people here to support the trucks and make it a success for everyone."

If you are interested in hosting an event at the park, they say they are more than happy to rally the food trucks. If you are interested in visiting the food park for a quick bite, check their Facebook page for a schedule of which trucks will be there.
