MERIDIAN -- People living in the Treasure Valley have a unique opportunity to hear from someone deeply affected by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
David Beamer, the father of 9/11 hero Todd Beamer, will speak at at Ten Mile Christian Church on Sunday, which marks the 15th anniversary of the attacks.
Todd Beamer was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 93 when it was hijacked by militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda.
"There's not a day that goes by that Peggy my wife and I don't think about Todd," Todd's father, David Beamer said. "He cared about people, he was a good listener."
Todd's father told KTVB it's a blessing Flight 93 took off about 20 minutes late on 9/11.
He says it disrupted the terrorists timing and gave Todd, other passengers on the plane, and crew members a chance to fight back.
On a phone call with GTE operator Lisa Jefferson, Todd provided information about what the hijackers were telling Flight 93 passengers, along with which direction he believed they were flying the plane.
David Beamer says his son also prayed, and in the air above Pennsylvania, he could be heard helping to craft a plan.
In an interview with the History Channel, operator Lisa Jefferson says she could hear Todd turn to someone on the plane and say, 'Are you ready? OK, let's roll!'
"So that's become kind of a rallying cry," David added.
The plane never reached its intended target. It crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing Todd along with 39 other passengers and crew members.
"It's a blessing that that counter attack was successful," David said.
Since his son died, David Beamer has traveled the country telling Todd's story and sharing his testimony.
He says it's a blessing his son was a Christian and told us his family's shared faith is what has gotten them through the last 15 years.
You can hear more from David Beamer at all five services at Ten Mile Christian Church in Meridian on Sunday. Military members and first responders will also be honored.
