Development booming in South Meridian

A look at what's happening in South Meridian.

MERIDIAN -- As South Meridian continues to grow, it's apparent why the city has topped multiple lists this year as the best place to live in America.

A map of South Meridian was presented at a Town Hall meeting last week, showing tons of new residential and commercial development in the area south of the I-84, and between Eagle Road and Ten Mile.

City of Meridian Planning Supervisor Bill Parsons says this map shows everything that has been happening in the last 18 months.

Businesses like Rite-Aid, Starbucks, Bishes RV, and Dowdy's Automotive will be going in along the Overland Road corridor near the freeway, while several single-family subdivisions are planned for different parcels across the area.

Parsons says over the past year, northern Meridian has seen a tremendous amount of growth, and now commercial developers are looking to south Meridian as more and more rooftops spring up.

"The idea behind that is to keep people living in south Meridian shopping in south Meridian so they don't have to go on the other side of the freeway to get those services that they need," Parsons explained.

The city is extremely excited about the new South Meridian YMCA and city park planned off Eagle and Amity.

These projects are all at different stages. Some are currently under construction, while others - like the new WinCo Foods on Overland Road between Eagle Road and Locust Grove Road - haven't broken ground yet.
