Caldwell kids Shop with a Cop

CALDWELL - Police officers and children took over the Caldwell Walmart Saturday morning for Shop with a Cop. The annual event pairs underprivileged kids with officers for a shopping excursion.

Nearly two dozen officers and kids were treated to breakfast at Mr. V's, then they hopped in patrol cars - the kids got to operate the lights and sirens - and made their way to Walmart for a shopping spree.

At the store, children bought presents for their families and themselves. It wasn't just shopping - there was plenty of fun to be had as well.

"While shopping, we noticed lots of games being played," said Capt. Frank Wyant. "Sword fights between kids and officers and kids being chased around by officers."

The Caldwell High School girls basketball teams also took part, welcoming the kids when they arrived and helping to wrap gifts before they left.

Wyant said 15 of the kids were sponsored by Caldwell Night Rodeo, while the rest were sponsored by other local businesses.
