BOISE - Thursday is expected to be a busy day at the Boise Stage Stop and it's not just people stopping by for gas, its also Truck Driver Appreciation Day and Thanksgiving.
One-hundred Thanksgiving turkeys are being prepared Wednesday to feed more than 300 truckers on Thursday.
The bird is only part of the meal.
“Stuffing, mash potatoes, gravy, biscuits, there is even a slice of pumpkin pie,” said Samantha McDonald, who is in charge of marketing at the Stage Stop.
If you have a commercial driver’s license, you and one guest can eat for free, as this Thanksgiving will also be the 11th annual Truck Driver Appreciation Day at the Stage Stop.
“One of the reasons we do this is because they work all day, every day, and they work through the holidays, Christmas and Thanksgiving, and a lot of them can’t be home,” said McDonald.
At the Stage Stop, staff try to make the holiday as homey as possible.
“A lot of our waitresses and staff feel like they have known the same people for years and they come in all the time, so they are sort of like family,” said McDonald.
If you’re not a truck driver, you're still welcome to come by and purchase a Thanksgiving meal.
The feast begins at 10 a.m. and will continue until midnight.
