The man was identified as 20-year-old Danny Havens of Fruitland.

Havens had been missing for nearly a month. Police say he led officers on a chase down I-84 from Fruitland toward the Oregon border  Sept. 25. After his pickup hit spike strips, he turned off the interstate and took off running, police say.

Officers chased after him on foot, but Havens leaped into the Snake River to get away.

A search of the area and downriver with boats during the morning hours failed to locate Havens.

Police say he drowned after jumping into the water.
