BOISE -- Police say a 47-year-old Nampa man led them on a drunken, high-speed chase early Friday morning before he struck a spike strip and ran off the road.
Meridian police say Rojelio M. Rojas was spotted driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84 just before 3:30 a.m.
Officers say they located Rojas on Cherry Lane near 10 Mile Road a few minutes later. He was reportedly driving with his headlights off.
Sergeant Brian Caldwell told KTVB Rojas then tried to escape officers by driving at speeds over 100 m.p.h. while repeatedly turning his headlights off and on.
Caldwell says the chase continued into Boise on Fairview Avenue, where Rojas eventually hit a spike strip deployed by officers. The 47-year-old was arrested after he failed to negotiate a turn, then drove onto a curb near Cole Road, according to police.
Rojas was booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of eluding police. He was also charged with DUI.
Officers with the Boise Police Department and Ada County Sheriff's Office assisted in the chase.
