BOISE -- A new underpass on Idaho Highway 21 is making travel easier for deer and elk.

In the past, the animals had to cross the highway between Boise and Robie Creek as they made their way to and from the mountains.

To keep cars and wildlife separate, an underpass was built last fall in the area where collisions have in past years killed 75 to 200 or more deer and elk.

Krista Muller with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game tells us so far this spring only one animal has died there, but the job isn't finished.

"We are in the process of trying to raise more money to finish the fencing, it's called exclusion fencing, the fencing keeps those animals off the road," said Muller.

A group called the Boise River Wildlife Linkage Partnership is working to raise that money.

The group includes private citizens, business, non-profits and local, state and federal government representatives.
