BOISE -- Two fires erupted near a downtown bar Tuesday night, causing evacuations. Authorities believe illegal fireworks may have caused the flames and are asking for help to find those responsible.
Firefighters say the incident happened on and around the Reef bar and lounge near 6th and Main in downtown Boise at approximately 11:20 p.m.
They say an outdoor umbrella caught fire in an upstairs outdoor lounge area. Another fire sparked in the bushes across the street from the bar. Both fires are thought to be caused by fireworks.
Witnesses reported four people dressed in dark clothing that may have been playing with the fireworks before the flames broke out. They say the four ran away from the scene immediately afterward.
Fire officials say they're reviewing evidence given to them by witnesses.
"I think they are examining some media that captured stuff that went on, and we will know a little more shortly," said Battalion Chief Tom Pawek. "I have investigators here currently looking at that, and trying to figure out the cause."
Officers say witnesses reported hearing loud bangs just before the fires. Investigators report finding evidence that fireworks had been set off.
Fortunately, there was no damage done to the building and no one was hurt.
