BOISE -- A handful of significant wildfires continue to burn throughout the state of Idaho, including the Trinity Ridge, Halstead, and Mustang Complex fires.

National Interagency Fire Center officials continue to monitor gusty winds and below average humidity throughout central Idaho, and expect those conditions to fuel fire growth in many locations.

Halstead Fire

Location: Salmon-Challis National Forest, 18 miles north of Stanley, Idaho
Size: 103,000 acres
Percent Contained: 7%
Estimated Containment Date: Tuesday, October 16th

Notes:The fire grew a little over 3000 acres Saturday to Sunday and is continuing to push south and east. The fire was putting up a lot of smoke and burning freely in the beetle killed trees in the Basin Creek area which is on the southeastern portion of the fire. The Main Salmon River and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River remain open although some of the access points have been closed. Most Forest Service roads are closed throughout this area. For more information, see the Inciweb Halstead Fire website.

Trinity Ridge Fire

Location: 45 miles east of Boise, near the communities of Atlanta, Featherville, and Pine.
Size: 122,990 acres
Percent Contained: 5%
Estimated Containment Date: Monday, October 1st.

Notes: Burnout operations near the towns of Featherville and Pine have effectively cut-off the fire from these communities. The Elmore County Sheriff evacuation order continues from Featherville to the Paradise area due to thick smoke and reduced visibility. Although the Pine Featherville Road remains closed, the Sheriff may allow those with a critical need to access their properties for a short period of time each day up to 7 p.m. on a case-by-case basis. Residents must call 208-590-3845 to see if access is granted. An Evacuation Center has been set up by the Red Cross at the Pine Senior Center and the Pines Resort. For more information, see the Inciweb Trinity Ridge Fire website.

Mustang Complex fires

Location: Wilderness terrain approximately 50 miles west of Salmon, Idaho
Size: 136,885 acres
Percent Contained: 12%
Estimated Containment Date: Not available

Notes: A mandatory road closure is in effect for many forest service roads in this area, but not for the Salmon River Road. However, drivers should expect to encounter pilot cars if traveling on this road.

River recreationists should check in at the North Fork Ranger Station at the intersection of U.S. 93 and Salmon River Road for the latest updates on closures and road conditions in this area.
