BOISE -- His nickname was the "Guardian of the Foothills." And for more than two decades the late retired deputy Jim Femrite spent a lot of time helping other in the foothills surrounding Ada County.
That's why the Ada County Sheriff's Office dedicated a memorial to him Wednesday at the Seaman's Gulch Trailhead along Seaman's Gulch Road in Garden City.
Femrite passed away in January at the age of 60.
His wife Brenda says this is a fitting tribute.
"He really just dedicated his life to it and knew the importance of it," said Brenda Femrite. "For this to stand here is so nice. It's such a great tribute. He was such a quiet man that he would be so humbled to have something so nice to stand in his memory."
Femrite joined the Ada County Sheriff's Office in 1977.
He worked as a school resource officer at Kuna High before moving to the patrol position.
He retired from the agency in late 2010.
