STAR, Idaho -- An 81-year-old Middleton man has been cited for inattentive driving after deputies say he drove his car the wrong way on Highway 44 this morning and collided with a pickup truck near Star.
The crash happened just after 7 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 44 and Can-Ada Road.
According to the Ada County Sheriff's Office, James Syme was driving a Buick sedan westbound in the eastbound lane of the highway when his car collided head-on with an eastbound pickup.
An eastbound Jeep then rear-ended the pickup.
Syme was to taken a local hospital for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
No one in the pickup or Jeep was hurt in the crash.
Two tow trucks were needed to separate the pickup and sedan.
The intersection of Can-Ada Road and Highway 44 was temporarily closed while authorities investigated.
Deputies are still trying to determine why Syme drove into oncoming traffic.
