PAYETTE COUNTY – A teenager accused of killing his grandmother appeared in a Payette County courtroom Wednesday afternoon.

Eighteen-year-old Tyler Naughton is charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of 60-year-old Sherryl Kenney.

Kenney was found dead Sunday morning in her home in Fruitland. Payette County Coroner Keith Schuller says she was shot four times with a .22 caliber rifle. He added she was not asleep when the shooting occurred.

Naughton is also accused of stealing his grandmother’s Ford pickup truck.

During today’s arraignment, the judge appointed a public defender and ordered Naughton to not have any contact with his grandfather Michael Kenney.

Naughton remains in jail on $500,000 bond.
