Bennett Mountain Fire
HAMMETT, Idaho -- Firefighters with the Bureau of Land Management say the most recent wildfire near the Mountain Home area is very active and continues to grow.
The "Stout Fire" is currently burning about 14 miles north of Hammett and about 10 miles east of Mountain Home in the foothills of nearby Bennett Mountain. BLM says the fire grew to 12,200 acres Friday morning with no sign of containment.
Brandon Hampton with the BLM said the flames were moving toward Highway 20 forcing a brief closure of a lane Thursday night near Mountain Home. It is back open this morning.
The fire is burning grass and sage in steep terrain. Resources included six engines, two 20-person hand crews, two dozers, a water tender, and retardant dropped from the air on Thursday.
No structures have been threatened by this fire.
