BOISE -- The speed limit on a 2.2-mile stretch of State Street will be lowered to 50 mph starting Tuesday.
The Idaho Transportation Department says the change will be on a short stretch of the road between Glenwood Street and Idaho 55.
The speed limit was scheduled to be reduced to 45 mph in August, but traffic engineers reanalyzed the change and concluded 50 mph is more appropriate for this segment that goes from rural to urban.
"It is appropriate for safety and traffic flow to reduce that speed limit to 50 mph," said ITD southwest Idaho Traffic Engineer Kevin Sablan. "It was becoming increasingly difficult for motorists to safely enter and cross the highway."
