BOISE -- Blue and white scarves were very popular last year among the Special Olympic Athletes and their fans who attended the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise.
This year, the local Special Olympics is hoping to keep that tradition going with more scarves for their local athletes.
350 scarves have already come into the Boise office from 35 different states.
The goal is to receive 650 scarves by March 9.
It's an ambitious project, but organizers said they have faith in the local crocheting community.
“They will be distributed to the athletes up at their opening ceremony up in Cascade on March 12,” said Heather Hill with Special Olympics Idaho. “So the athletes are really excited, they are not quite sure how they are going to receive them. That is kind of a surprise that we have for the athletes.”
If you are interested in helping out, the scarves have to be made out of Red Heart yarn in cherry red and gray heather colors.
