NAMPA -- Sorrento Lactalis is planning to shut down its new whey dryer during the New Year's holiday in response to noise complaints by neighbors.
The dryer at the Nampa cheese factory will be turned off at 10 p.m. Friday and stay off until 6 a.m. Sunday.
The company said the first phase of work to reduce noise, which includes temporary enclosures around two of the exhaust stacks, will be completed today.
A second phase is expected to be completed in February.
The company also says they will hold a public meeting in January to give residents the opportunity to voice concerns and discuss the steps being taken by the company to address the noise issue. Details on the meeting will come from the company in the coming days.
