BOISE -- An Ada County Sheriff's deputy who police say drove through a Meridian neighborhood under the influence, causing serious damage, has been fired.
Spencer Powers was a detention deputy for the Ada County Jail.
His attorney says the last thing he remembered before being shaken awake in his SUV, was logging onto his computer at home.
Powers' attorney said he suffered amnesia after taking Ambien, a prescription sleeping pill earlier that night.
Police say Powers knocked down mailboxes, hit a tree and a car.
