BOISE -- Wednesday night's thunderstorms caught a trio of mountain bikers off guard after one man fell and was injured about nine miles up Bogus Basin Road.

The call for help came in to Ada County Dispatch just before 5:00 p.m.

A technical rescue team had to hike about 500 yards down into steep terrain to rescue the cyclist, who was cradled packed out.

Officials said they couldn't use a helicopter for the rescue due to lightning strikes in the area.

"Obviously when it starts raining, temps drop," said Steve Rasulo with the Boise Fire Department. "It's going to impact the patients themselves, and it's going to make the footing a little more treacherous for us."

Crews say it took about an hour to get the injured man into an ambulance.

There's no word yet on the extent of his injuries. However, firefighters say he was conscious and alert during the rescue.
