MERIDIAN -- There is a new traffic light at Pine Avenue and Linder Road in Meridian.
The signal replaces a four-way stop at the intersection.
The project added turn lanes, additional through lanes, bike lanes and a sidewalk.
It also features a new pedestrian crossing signal just north of the intersection called a High-intensity Activated crossWalk, or HAWK. The crossing beacon will serve students walking or biking to nearby Meridian High School and others in the area. The HAWK beacon is only activated when a pedestrian pushes the button to cross the street.
Ada County Highway District commissioners and Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd gathered Thursday morning to put the new traffic signal into service and held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the $1.6 million project.
ACHD says about 16,000 vehicles use the intersection on a daily basis.
