NAMPA – A local rapper who goes by the name “Big Happy” isn’t too happy today after he was arrested in connection with several car burglaries in Nampa early this morning.
Benigno Rocha, 22, of Caldwell was booked into the Canyon County Jail on charges of burglary and grand theft.
Sgt. Tim Randall says at 3:25 a.m. Thursday, Nampa Police received a phone call from a man who said that several people were breaking into vehicles and garages in the 2300 block of W. Lake Point Court in Nampa. The man who reported the crimes confronted the suspects who fled in a white vehicle. He then chased the suspects’ vehicle west down Smith Avenue to Midland Boulevard, where it crashed into a car parked under a carport. Randall says the carport and house were damaged.
Randall says all this took place in just a matter of minutes and officers arrived on scene just moments after the crash. Three men fled the car on foot. The driver, Benigno Rocha, was taken into police custody. The other suspects are still on the loose.
Randall says officers found several stolen items at the scene of the crash including a purse that was taken from a car parked in a garage, power tools and stereos. He says the thieves took items from garages and vehicles.
Police are asking residents in the Lake Point subdivision to check for any items missing from their vehicles or garages. They are also seeking assistance in identifying the three males suspects that got away.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Nampa Police Department at 465-2257 or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
