MERIDIAN -- With this great weather we've had the last few days, coupled with higher gas prices, many people may consider going for a ride on a motorcycle.

To make sure that drivers are safe while on the road, the Idaho STAR Program is hosting a series of motorcycle safety courses across the state.

Saturday at the High Desert Harley-Davidson in Meridian, riders were able to see demonstrations and practice safe riding to avoid collisions.

"It's important to go out and practice and work on those skills so when the emergency happens, we're ready for it and we can handle it," said Stacey Axmaker with Idaho STAR.

From 1996 to 2010, the Idaho STAR program claims to have reduced crash risk by 79 percent and dropped the risk of a fatal crash by 89 percent.
