NAMPA -- Nampa Police say a man who barricaded himself inside his apartment and then fired shots at police died sometime Saturday afternoon.
Nampa Police Sgt. Tim Randall says dispatch received a 'shots fired' call around 2:16 p.m at an apartment near 12th Avenue Road and East Greenhurst Road. Police say the man fired a handgun through the wall into the neighboring apartment. No one in the apartment was hurt.
Sgt. Randall says the man also started shooting at police as they were setting up a perimeter around the unit. Officers shot back at the suspect.
The Canyon County Sheriff's Office, Canyon County SWAT team, Nampa Fire Dept., and Meridian Police Dept. were also on the scene.
It is unknown at this time if the man killed himself, if police shot him, or he died of other causes.
Police evacuated the area around the man's apartment unit for a short time.
Sgt. Randall says police were also on the scene Friday night when the same man called to report a break-in at his apartment. It is unclear at this time if that is related to Saturday's incident.
