POTLACH, Idaho -- Police are crediting a passing motorists with helping save the life of a Moscow man involved in a car crash on U.S. Highway 95.
Investigators say 30-year-old John Balka is in critical condition in a Spokane, Wash., hospital after losing control of his car near Potlatch Monday night. Balka was ejected from the vehicle and his legs were severed in the crash.
Idaho State Police Trooper Chad Montgomery says the first people to arrive at the crash scene applied tourniquets that may have helped save Balka's life.
Montgomery did not identify the good Samaritans, but tells the Lewiston Tribune that one of them is a sports medicine specialist.
