CALDWELL -- A pilot escaped injury after his plane made a "hard landing" at the Caldwell Industrial Airport this morning.
Dispatchers say the call came in just after 11 a.m. Fire, police and paramedics all responded.
Airport manager Rob Oates said it appears there was some type of engine failure and the male pilot had to set down his owner-built Sky Raider plane just after take off. The pilot was the only one on board and was not hurt in the mishap.
Oates said the pilot made a "skillful" landing in the grass just off the runway. The plane has big tires that are made for landing on this type of surface. The landing gear was damaged.
The FAA was on scene to interview the pilot.
The airport is still open and the plane has been removed from the runway.
