MERIDIAN -- Pet lovers gathered at a Meridian Petco on Saturday to help raise money for a little dog in need.

Auggie is a four-and-a -half-month-old pit bull puppy who can't use his hind legs. Right now, Auggie uses a pair of wheels to help him get around. Auggie's owners joined with the folks at Petco to organize a benefit for his surgery.

Auggie was just days away from being euthanized at an animal shelter, when he was adopted. However, his new owners are now faced with high veterinary bills and rehabilitation costs to help him walk.

"The doctor says he has a fluid-filled cyst in his upper spine that's pressing on some nerves," said Jennifer Corodimas, Auggie's owner. "So that's why he can't use his legs, and it looks like it's operable."

Corodimas also said the surgery and rehab will cost between $4,600 and $4,800, but it's a small fee if Auggie will likely be able to use his hind legs.

The fundraiser included large snakes, tortoises and other reptiles from "Reptile Adventures." But the highlight of the event for the pup was a kissing booth, featuring a big, wet kiss from Auggie himself.
