GARDEN CITY -- Police are searching for the driver of an SUV that hit a pedestrian and then left the scene of the accident.
Garden City Police say 25-year-old Alan D. Beavers was hit at the intersection of Chinden Boulevard and Garrett Street just after 10 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses at the scene told investigators that a dark-colored SUV was headed west on Chinden at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light and struck the man in a crosswalk.
Based on evidence gathered at the scene, investigators believe the vehicle was a dark colored 1992 to 1995 Toyota 4 Runner. The SUV sustained damage to the right front quarter panel / hood area and likely sustained damage to the right front headlight / turn signal.
Beavers was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where he remains in critical condition.
Police say immediately after the crash, the SUV pulled into a nearby Chevron station parking lot, then continued south onto Maple Grove Road towards Mountain View Drive. The vehicle was caught on surveillance camera as it pulled through the convenience store parking lot. Investigators hope that someone will recognize the SUV and give them a call.
