BOISE -- Governor Otter thanked legislative leaders and criminal justice stakeholders Friday for their recommendations designed to make Idaho's communities safer while saving taxpayer dollars.
Otter made the remarks over the Idaho's proposed justice reinvestment policy framework.
The purpose of the policy is to help Idaho spend less money on the prison system over the next 5 years, while still keeping up with the state's growing prison population.
The report recommends more training for probation and parole officers, along with other measures to make sure that programs designed to keep offenders out of additional trouble are working.
The full Justice Reinvestment Policy report will be submitted to the full Legislature for consideration.
