BOISE -- An attorney from southwestern Idaho has been appointed to a new judgeship created by the 2013 Legislature.
Caldwell attorney Christopher Nye was named by Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter on Friday to the post in Idaho's 3rd Judicial District.
The judge position was one of several that the Legislature created to help ease the burden on busy judicial districts.
Nye has been a partner at a private law firm in Nampa, but he's originally from Kansas.
Arriving in Idaho in 1983, Nye was first a deputy Canyon County prosecutor and a deputy public defender in Nampa before joining a private firm in 1990 to focus on civil litigation and family law.
Otter said Nye's steady demeanor and his fair, even-handed judicial temperament were attributes that stood out during the selection process.
