CALDWELL -- Canyon County Coroner Vicki Degeus-Morris says a 42-year-old Nampa man died in a single car crash on Highway 55 in Caldwell this morning.

The victim has been identified as Art Heath. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that he was a longtime paper carrier and was on his paper route when the accident occurred.

The crash happened between Lake Avenue and Midway Road shortly after 5 a.m.

Police dispatch says Heath was driving a red 1993 Mercury Tracer that went off the side of the road. The car struck a guardrail and a tree, rolled several times and landed near a canal, with the car coming to rest on its side. Heath died at the scene.

The highway between Lake Avenue and Midway Road was closed for about three hours. It has since reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
