MERIDIAN -- St. Luke's has just opened a new outpatient surgery center in Meridian with room to grow.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday for the $12 million facility.
In the past, St. Luke's Meridian patients who needed surgery, but did not need an overnight hospital stay were treated in the main operating rooms.
"The operating rooms in Boise are at a capacity and in Meridian are reaching capacity, and over 50 percent of the surgeries we do are outpatient surgeries. So the need is there so we're growing rapidly on an outpatient basis," said Surgery Center Manager Linda Petersen.
Petersen says the outpatient center provides a more personal touch, at a lower cost than traditional operating rooms.
The center has two operating suites right now, but has the capacity to add four more suites to meet future demand.
