GARDEN CITY – A Meridian woman is facing six misdemeanor charges after fleeing the scene of an accident in Garden City last night.
Jennifer Sorensen, 31, is charged with two counts of injury to a child and driving under the influence.
Around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Garden City Police officers responded to an accident at Arney Lane and Wakefield Street. The vehicle that caused the accident, a Blue Suzuki passenger car, fled the scene.
Officers located and stopped the car near Glenwood and Marigold Streets. Inside they found Sorensen and two 4-year-old boys.
After arresting Sorensen, officers found a substance believed to be marijuana inside her purse and a marijuana smoking pipe on her person.
She was booked into the Ada County Jail. In addition to the injury to a child charges and DUI, Sorensen is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
"Fortunately there were no injuries as a result of the accident. The boys, who appeared to be in good health, are currently in the custody of their father. This was an unnecessary event that could have resulted in a severe outcome. We are very grateful to the citizen who assisted us with locating Sorensen and preventing a potentially tragic outcome," said Garden City Police Chief James Bensley.
Sorensen’s bond is set at $2,000. She is scheduled for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
