BOISE - A fire ripped through a shop in Caldwell Friday morning, sending smoke and ash into the air and crews scrambling.
The fire happened on Midway Road between Karcher and Homedale roads, forcing the closure of Midway Road. The road has since reopened.
Melvin Arnold lives next door and tells KTVB the building houses a home business shop and he heard popping noises after the fire ignited. He says the owner was able to move his truck away from the burning shop.
Caldwell Fire Captain John Hogg says the owner noticed flames coming from a tractor parked in the doorway. The fire quickly spread to the interior of the shop, which is described as a total loss. No one was injured.
Fire crews were on scene quickly and able to extinguish the fire. Hogg says there were welding and propane tanks in the building and he believes the owner was working on the tractor before the fire broke out.
Hogg says the explosions heard coming from the building were likely from tires exploding.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
