NAMPA -- The Canyon County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a man found shot to death near Lake Lowell Monday morning.
The victim has been identified as 27-year-old James Groat of Nampa. An autopsy conducted by the Canyon County coroner this morning determined that Groat had multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The weapon was a medium caliber handgun.
The body was found around 9 a.m. by a passerby near a field in the area of Midland Boulevard and Locust Lane, just south of Nampa.
Detectives along with crime scene investigators spent about seven hours investigating the scene on Monday. They are treating this death as a homicide and following up with interviews and evidence found at the scene.
A motive has not been determined.
