Car found submerged in Salmon River
BOISE -- The man whose body was found inside a submerged pickup truck in the Salmon River has been identified as 74-year-old Pat Donica, of McCall, officials said.
The Valley County Sheriff's Office also said Thursday that the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but they do not suspect foul play in Donica's death.
Deputies say the vehicle was found by a passerby at about 11:20 a.m. Wednesday in a remote area east of McCall.
The passerby noticed debris on the roadway, stopped and then discovered that a vehicle had gone off the road and into the river, deputies said.
Valley County Coroner Nathan Hess tells KTVB that an official cause of death has not yet been determined. However, Hess believes Donica likely died from blunt force trauma. He said it's also possible that Donica was knocked unconscious in the crash and then drowned when his vehicle became submerged in the river.
