MOUNTAIN HOME -- An Elmore County man has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend and her two young sons.

A jury reached a verdict just before noon today in the trial of Jorge Alberto Lopez-Orozco. The jury began their deliberations yesterday.

Orozco was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty to the charges in 2011.

Prosecutors say Lopez-Orozco shot and killed Rebecca Ramirez and her sons in the summer of 2002 because Ramirez planned to leave him for another man. Their bodies were found in a burned-out car.

Lopez-Orozco fled the country after their deaths and was placed on the FBI's Most Wanted List. He was captured seven years later in Mexico and returned to Idaho.

"Jorge Alberto Lopez-Orozco fled Idaho in an attempt to get away with what he did and the citizens of Elmore County have told him that he did not get away with it," said Elmore County Prosecuting Attorney Kristina Schindele.

Schindele says the victims' family still lives in the area and that many of them were in the courtroom today. She said they were all very relieved to hear the guilty verdict, and believe that some justice has been done.

Because Lopez-Orozco agreed to be extradited to Idaho to face trial, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty against him.

He will be sentenced on Jan. 14, 2013, and faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
