BOISE -- Did you know there are more than 10,000 military kids living in Idaho?

On Friday night at the Moseley Center Boys and Girls Club in Garden City, a proclamation from Governor Otter was read to declare April as military child month.

Organizers say children of military families make huge sacrifices for our country just like their parents.

"It's really important we get people to understand that we do have military kids that aren't just on installations, they're your next door neighbors as well and they need your attention sometimes.  They're kids that are fighting some big challenges," said LeAnn Edwards National Guard Youth Coordinator.

The community is encouraged to show their support for Idaho's military kids by wearing purple.
