JACKSON, Wyo. -- An Idaho man is dead after a snow slide pushed him off a 1,500 foot cliff.

It happened in the Grand Teton National Park in Jackson, Wyoming before noon on Sunday.

Wray Landon, 30, from Driggs, Idaho, was the skier.

According to a park spokesman, Landon was with two other skiers when the avalanche happened.

Landon and the two others were skiing on the South Teton peak. The peak is 12,514 feet high.

A park spokesman says the group had summited the peak and then skied down several hundred feet when the slide began.

The other two skiers managed to escape but Landon was pushed off the cliff.

According to the Jackson Hole Daily, a helicopter flew search and rescue crews into the area to get Landon's body out.

Many who knew Landon have commented on tetonta.com, a popular Web site for skiers in Jackson.

One person wrote, "We have all suffered a great loss with the passing of Wray. He was a great man and incredible athlete." Someone else wrote, "...he was loving life, like always. It is hard to believe he is gone. He is a wonderful man, a great person all around."

According to Landon's facebook page he worked as a resource specialist for Teton Regional Land Trust.

He had lived in the Teton Valley for at least three years.

According to the Land Trust Web site Landon previously worked as a ski coach at the Grand Targhee Resort.

This is the second avalanche fatality in the Tetons this winter.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
