BOISE -- Idaho's dentists have stepped up their support encouraging the Idaho State Legislature to raise tobacco taxes this session.
The Idaho State Dental Association says one of the greatest threats to the dental health of young people is tobacco, particularly smokeless (chewing) tobacco.
According to the ISDA, studies have shown that having higher taxes is the most effective way to reduce tobacco use.
Currently, Idaho has one of the lowest cigarette taxes in the country at 57 cents per pack.
As of Wednesday, the Legislature does not have a specific bill regarding the cigarette tax.
