GARDEN CITY -- Investigators say arson is the cause of a fire at a store in Garden City.

The fire was reported Saturday night just behind The Idaho Youth Ranch thrift store on Chinden Boulevard.

Ada County Firefighters at a firehouse across the street got the call to respond.

And when they opened their bay door, they could see smoke.

Behind the thrift store, sofas were on fire.

They were donations that had been dropped off after the store closed.

The couches were against the building, so the flames traveled up the wall and into the rafters.

Firefighters say they were able to get control of it.

"Once it gets into attic area, in a concealed space it can hide in there and just travel throughout the whole store," Ada County Fire Dept. Captain Rob Christensen said. "Witnesses were saying that they did see somebody possibly light and then take off.”

Garden City Police say they do have surveillance video and they're investigating leads provided by witnesses.

Officers have not released any information regarding possible suspects.

An Idaho Youth Ranch manager says the store smelled of smoke Sunday, but was not damaged inside.

Repairs will have to be made to the back side of the building.

The store was open Sunday for regular business hours.
