BOISE, Idaho -- Idaho Power will be holding a series of public hearings this month on the company's proposed route for a new transmission line planned between northeastern Oregon and southwestern Idaho.

The utility wants to string a 500-kilovolt power line across 300 miles of federal, state and private land between Boardman, Ore., and Melba, Idaho.

Idaho Power officials say the line is necessary to provide additional capacity for customers in both states, but some of the routes considered over the years have raised concerns from ranchers and landowners.

The Idaho Business Review reports the latest round of public hearings begins Aug. 6 in Pilot Rock, Ore. Other Oregon locations include Ontario, Boardman, La Grand and Baker City. In Idaho, a hearing is planned for Marsing.
