CALDWELL -- Idaho State Police say a driver who fell asleep at the wheel caused a head-on crash on Karcher Road this morning.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Karcher Road (State Highway 55) near Chicken Dinner Road and Pecan Lane just before 7 a.m.  The crash happened about eight miles north of Marsing.

Police says Edward Milburn, 20, of Wilder, was northbound in a 1989 Honda Accord when he fell asleep.  His car crossed the center line and collided head on with a 1990 Geo Metro driven by Matthew Harrell, 25, of Nampa.

Harrell was not wearing a seatbelt and was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injures.  Milburn was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt.

The highway was blocked for about an hour and a half while crews removed the damaged vehicles and cleared debris.  The road was reopened to traffic around 8:30 a.m.
