BOISE -- Governor C.L "Butch" Otter has issued a state disaster declaration to support firefighting efforts in Elmore County.
The declaration means that the Idaho Department of Lands can and will ask the Idaho National Guard to back up fire crews.
The Idaho Emergency Operations Center, that is housed at the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security has been activated and will be issuing assignments to the National Guard in support of the events.
Also, Elmore County has asked the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security to ask for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to support protection of the communities that are threaten by the Trinity Ridge Fire.
"With the extreme conditions and current and expected fire activity, the Bureau of Homeland Security stands ready to assist and support firefighting efforts," said BHS Director Col. Brad Richy. "I would like to thank Governor Otter, the Department of Lands, and the Idaho National Guard as we work together to protect Idaho's people, property and resources."
