BOISE -- Jaialdi 2010 is going on in downtown Boise and the festival is growing by the hour!
Organizers are saying as many as 40,000 could attend the weeklong event that wraps up Sunday.
Idaho’s capital city has become the Basque capital city. Folks have come from all over the nation and the world for a festival that comes here once every five years.
Gov. Butch Otter got involved today greeting Basque President Patxi Lopez along with former Secretary of State Pete Cenarussa and current Secretary of State Ben Ysursa.
The governor gave Lopez a silver Idaho belt buckle and a book on Idaho cowboys. Ysursa gave him a pair of Idaho cufflinks.
There had been some talk of the chance of Basque protesters over Lopez’s visit.
He was elected last year and became the first non-nationalist president in 30 years of the office.
The Basque’s nationalist party governed on a platform of independence from Spain. Lopez tends to walk a more liberal line and he has drawn criticism in his country.
So far, no sign of protests.
