GARDEN CITY – Police Chief James Bensley says two off-duty Garden City Police officers were among the rescuers who helped save a 16-year-old who crashed her car into an irrigation ditch on Wednesday.
Bensley identified the two off-duty officers as James J. O’Gorman and Timothy J. Riley.
The accident happened around 11 a.m. near Floating Feather and Pollard Roads just outside of Eagle.
In a news release, Bensley said the officers' training and instincts helped them assist the injured girl -- whom they found face down in the ditch.
“Obviously, we are very proud of their actions and more importantly grateful that they were at the right place and time to offer assistance. Both officers have been nominated for a Life Saving Award,” Chief Bensley said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. The victim remains in serious condition at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise.
