CALDWELL – A 22-year-old gang member has been ordered to serve up to 15 years in prison for domestic battery and attempted strangulation.

Canyon County Prosecutor Bryan Taylor says Ernesto Reyes of Los Angeles, Calif., was sentenced today by Judge Bradly S. Ford.

On June 15, 2013, Caldwell Police officers were called to West Valley Medical Center to investigate a domestic battery case after a female victim was brought there for treatment of her injuries.  Reyes showed up at the hospital with their child and was later arrested.

During sentencing the judge noted that these crimes were fourth and fifth felony convictions for Reyes. He was already on probation for a violence crime involving the same victim that occurred in January 2013. Reyes is a documented Sureno gang member.

Reyes must serve at least three years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
